Society is increasingly more concerned about the environment and the sustainability of the planet. Companies have begun to embrace that concern not only as a need, but also as an opportunity to position themselves and stand out from among their competitors. They are aware that green sells and that endeavours to improve in this area are reflected in the profit and loss account.
In the past, ecolabels were the way of showing the exemplary environmental performance of the products. However, their excessive proliferation and their inappropriate use, together with misleading advertising practices (known as“greenwashing”), resulted in a lack of credibility among consumers.
Therefore, environmental transparency based on the life cycle approach becomes particularly important, both at product and organisational level.
This parallel session will analyse the existing instruments for the environmental transparency of both products and organisations, along with future trends.
