Ever since the first human settlements existed, the procedure to colonise the land has adapted to the needs of the society of each time. Even though the first settlements were set up for protection and food, generating the minimum impact on the ecosystem, as civilisation has evolved, the emphasis has been ensuring its comfort.
Cities have caused changes in the functioning of the natural ecosystems both locally, at the settlement and its surroundings, and generally, causing emissions of polluting gases that affect the atmosphere and the environment.
Therefore, the Sustainable City concept has been created, leading to more resilient cities, generating a balance between the efficiency of the different parts of the urban ecosystem and the setting. These cities are designed in such a way to cause the minimum impact on the ecosystem and the environment.
